Youth Competitions Launched: “Youth in Motion” and “School Elections” Open for High School Students Across Serbia
The Zaječarska Initiative has launched two major opportunities for high school students and student parliaments across Eastern and Southern Serbia: the “Youth in Motion” competition and the “School Elections” program. Together, they represent one of the most comprehensive youth civic education efforts in the region, empowering young people to take an active role in improving their schools and communities.
1. Youth in Motion – A Chance to Turn Your Ideas Into Reality
The “Youth in Motion” program, implemented within the Zaječarska Initiative’s Ziman platform, invites high school students to design and implement creative projects that bring positive change to their school environment.
Each selected project may receive up to 700 USD in support. Applications are open to student parliaments from more than 30 cities and municipalities in Eastern and Southern Serbia.
Supported activities include:
- street actions, flash mobs, performances and video content,
- murals and graffiti with social messages,
- innovative social media campaigns,
- workshops, debates and peer-led educational events.
The program encourages creativity, critical thinking and teamwork, while enabling young people to take responsibility for shaping their communities.

2. School Elections – Learning Democracy Through Practice
The “School Elections” program offers students a unique way to understand democratic processes by organizing real elections within their schools. The program covers the full electoral cycle: candidate nominations, training sessions, campaigning, election day procedures, and the announcement of results.
Students experience every phase - forming campaign teams, developing messages, speaking in public, mobilizing supporters, voting, and monitoring the electoral process. The approach builds leadership, communication and teamwork skills, while strengthening students’ trust in democratic institutions.

Zaječar, Bor, Knjaževac, Kladovo, Sokobanja, Majdanpek, Boljevac, Negotin, Kučevo, Svilajnac, Jagodina, Paraćin, Ćuprija, Aleksinac, Despotovac, Žagubica, Veliko Gradište, Kruševac, Velika Plana, Smederevska Palanka, Varvarin, Kragujevac, Niš, Pirot, Babušnica, Požarevac, Smederevo, Petrovac na Mlavi, Svrljig and Leskovac.
