Vital Signs: How We Painted a Real Picture of Life in Zaječar Together

How good of a city is Zaječar to live in? Do citizens have enough opportunities for work, education, and quality leisure? How effective are local institutions, and is healthcare accessible?

Thanks to the Vital Signs study, Zaječar residents received, for the first time, a comprehensive overview of life in their city—based on relevant data and citizen opinions. This marks the first occasion when official statistics and personal experiences have been combined to provide a clear insight into what works well in the community and what can be further improved.

Data That Connects and Inspires

The study sparked remarkable engagement - citizens keenly followed the results and shared insights via social media. By centralizing key information, everyone - from individual residents to organizations and local initiatives - can now use this as a foundation to launch improvements and design new projects for a better Zaječar.

A special feature of the study allowed citizens to pinpoint specific issues and propose solutions directly via a Google Map. Their readiness to participate in community planning once again demonstrated what we already knew - Zaječar has people who want to and can make it a better place to live.

Together Toward Positive Change

Vital Signs is based on the internationally recognized methodology developed by the Toronto Community Foundation in Canada and now used globally. The study combines analysis of official statistics with citizen input to give a full picture of life in Zaječar. With the support of local experts, key life-quality indicators were defined, and surveys were conducted on a representative sample—ensuring relevance and accuracy.

Vital Signs are more than just data—they are a reflection of our community and a call to action. Thanks to this study, each of us has the opportunity to see the bigger picture, connect with others, and take initiative to improve our environment. The research confirmed that Zaječar possesses a strong and aware citizenry—and that is the most important first step toward positive change.
