“KVISTOK 2025”: A Quiz Series Bringing Together Eastern Serbian Towns Through Knowledge and EU Topics

The second season of the regional quiz series KVISTOK 2025 has successfully brought together knowledge enthusiasts from several towns across eastern Serbia, encouraging dialogue on issues of public importance and connecting communities through a fun and educational format.

This unique pub quiz series, organized as part of the From the EU Perspective project and supported by the European Union, has so far taken place in Zaječar, Knjaževac, Smederevo, Požarevac, and Bor—and is set to visit more towns across eastern Serbia. Each event has drawn a remarkably large number of participants—Zaječar alone hosted two fully booked editions, while the total number of participants has already exceeded 300.

The quiz takes place in a casual pub-like atmosphere, where teams compete in a wide range of categories such as geography, history, sports, film, photography, general knowledge, science, music, and-  of particular importance - topics related to the European Union. The quiz’s thematic focus on the EU has further sparked interest and enabled informal learning about the values, institutions, and challenges of European integration.

The top three teams from each town will advance to the grand finale, set to take place in Zaječar at the end of the year. According to the organizers, the strong interest and energy generated by the quiz events across the region confirm that this format holds great potential—not only for connecting communities, but also as an effective tool for informal education.

“The quiz is not just about entertainment -it’s an opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations about important social topics through teamwork and interaction, and the EU is certainly one of them,” said Dejan Perić from the Zaječar Initiative. Džavid Ziza, one of the organizers of the Pub Quiz events in Zaječar, added that Kvistok has become a recognized regional brand and announced a spectacular finale with exciting surprises for both the audience and participants.

The Kvistok pub quiz series is implemented as part of the project “From the EU Perspective,” supported by the European Union. The project is led by the Zaječar Initiative in partnership with the Jelena Šantić Foundation from Belgrade, Pro.Tok 21 from Smederevo, the Center for the Development of Local Media from Požarevac, and the Local Democracy Agency – LDA from Knjaževac.
